On the lolcats site, there's a celebrity look alike section. Some are scary-similar, some are funny, and some are this:

My reaction: OH DEAR GOD NO!

Jon's reaction: I hope that's what our kid looks like!!!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure my ovaries have been traumatized.

So we all know that Simon is super special, but we've finally figured out how to deal with it.

That's right, it's a kitty helmet. Too bad the damage has probably already been done.

Baseball is Gross

I watched the end of the Yankees / Phillies game with Jon last night. I never realized how awful watching baseball is.

1. You can take a nap in between important plays.
2. The players are fat and lazy. At least the fat guys in football will actually run. The second baseman wouldn't even chase the guy who was stealing a base more then 2 feet.
3. They don't even have to shower after the game (except the catcher). I don't think I can respect "physical" sports wherein the players don't even sweat.
4. The players are disgusting and spit like camels.
5. There are hands EVERYWHERE! One guy grabbed his junk while chilling on second base and they are all over each other in the dug out. Just too much grabbing by too many hands.
6. Their uniforms look like pajamas.

Watching baseball is like watching golf, really ghetto, disgusting, classless golf.

You meet a lot of very interesting characters on the internet. Story number one comes from a conversation I had with a Grifball buddy last night.

We were discussing my trip to Australia, and it came up that Kangaroo stew is delicious. I had just informed him that the majority of the meat for the stew comes from the tail...
Grifball Guy (11:51:46 PM): so they actually kill them? or just take the tail?
goosecheeka (11:51:51 PM): ...
Grifball Guy (11:51:57 PM): i don't know these things lol
goosecheeka (11:52:26 PM): i'm pretty sure just taking the tail would be cruel and inhumane
Grifball Guy (11:52:27 PM): your australian knowledge is better than mine I only took a class on it for a quarter
goosecheeka (11:52:34 PM): do we just take the haunches of a cow?
Grifball Guy (11:52:41 PM): lol that's a very good point
goosecheeka (11:52:42 PM): or the stomach of a pig?
goosecheeka (11:52:50 PM): or the nuggets of a chicken?!

Just in case he reads this, I still <3 you.

I had another interesting run in during last Grfiball DXP weekend (you get to play Grifball in a playlist one weekend a month for double the experience points)

There was this guy... He spent the entire game screaming derogatory comments at me and kept it up in the post game lobby. I told him that it was ok, that I loved him, and the he was just angry because he isn't loved enough.  He responded with this:

And then 2 minutes later with this.

I met up with him a second time and he spent the entire game betraying his teammates "for goose" and calling me "sweety" and "baby". *gag* After asking for a slot on my friends list, he sent this:

I <3 the interwebs!

I was browsing the interwebs yesterday and this I found on hawtymcbloggy.com

It's a Rorschach (also known as the ink blot test) using the Halo 3 Heat maps. The colors represent the frequency of deaths in that particular area.

It's good to see that there are other gamer-psychologist-nerds out there.

Now lie on my couch and tell me what you see...

I just got back from PAX last weekend and it was awesome! Pics are up on Facebook, my fave being me with Master Chief!

Now I know no one who reads my journal is as big a gamer as I am, but I thought you might be interested.

In about a month there's a charity event for Extra Life )and the gaming fan site I write for is trying to rally some support for this great cause. It's a 24 hour gaming event and it's requested that either you, or a sponsor, put up a dollar for each hour you play. If you don't game or don't want to, you can always just donate as well. For more info, you can look here http://grifballhub.com/grifball-gives-back-august-edition/

One thing about immersing oneself in the almost completely masculine culture on online gaming is that I now crave "girl power"music.

I'm creating a Femme Fatal playlist of sorts. This is what I have so far:

Pink - Bad Influence, So what
Paramore - That's What You Get, Misery Business
Nelly Furtado - Say It Right, Maneater, Promiscuous
Kate Perry - I kissed a girl
Cascada - Every time we touch ( kinda stands out from the rest, but I really like it)

Any suggestions along these lines?

Robin was here a few weeks ago and it was awesome having her around. In addition to all the parties and wedding stuff, we did find time just to talk. It's hard to believe, but she'll be heading off to college soon, so I asked her what she wanted to study.

She said business.  Blegh! Now, I know my sister and she is definitely not the 'business' type. So, upon further interrogation, she revealed that she wants to do photography but thought a major in business would help her run one. She also talked about how she wanted to get a job this summer just for something to do. (She baby sits and makes mad money doing that.)

So, in all my big-sister wisdom, I suggested that she major in photography / visual arts and minor in business. I also stressed the importance of experience, particularly with arts, and that if she wanted something "to do" this summer, she should go for internships.

Well, today she IM'd me to say that she'd been invited by a local photography studio for an internship interview and now has to go through all her photos and put together a portfolio. She's super stoked and so am I.

If you're Robin's friend of facebook, you should check out her albums.

Me = proud sister.

Hair Trial and Error

So, did the hair trial thing today.

This is the look I wanted: Soft, elegant, romantic.

This is the look I got:

BLEGH! I mean... there is hair sticking out the top of my head! It's lumpy and tight and definitely not soft. It's like... really bad prom hair.

Next step: Set up another trial and keep the stylist there until I get what I want.

FAFSA F*CK You

$80 to submit a FAFSA, what the hell? I'm fucking applying for financial aid and I have to fucking pay $80 just to see if I qualify?!

How the hell is that okay?

EDIT: *Actually, it's not ok. I called the number to make sure I wasn't missing something and figured out that I had just filled out the form for a consulting service, not the ACTUAL FEDERAL FAFSA.

I've filled out the actual FAFSA and am waiting for my PIN and will not be paying $80 to push a button.

OMG, It's Really Happening

The wedding, it's really happening! This weekend my little sister was here and helped SO MUCH with wedding stuff. We went and got my dress fitted and made tons of paper tissue flowers and three whole pomanders. We even put together all of the centerpieces that we had the stuff for. And, as of a few days ago, we've started getting response cards. Getting the mail is now the highlight of my day because every day there's at least one card. A few people have declined, but no one unexpected and apparently everyone loves the filet mignon, who knew?

Jon and I are also almost finished filling out our DJ request form and we've still got a few request slots open, so if you want to hear a particular song, speak now or forever hold your peace.

I've gotten a couple of questions about the wedding regarding the garter and bouquet toss, so I thought I'd just clear that up real quick. Jon and I are going to do the garter and bouquet toss, but the guy who catches the garter WILL NOT be placing it on the girl who catches the bouquet.

53 days and counting.

CERT Training

So tonight was my first day in Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). I'm taking this course with Abbassi and by the end, I'll be certified to provide triage, first aid and even psychological first aid. I get an awesome jacket and vest, a hard hat and a pack with over $200 worth of emergency response equipment.

After I'm certified, I'm on a list of DC CERT and if there ever is an emergency or a massive event like the inauguration, I could get called in to help! This is so awesome, like the reserve but without getting shipped to Iraq.

The class is from 6pm to 9pm Monday to Friday for one week and at the end BAM! you are certified to work on CERT teams in ever state. This is totally inspiring me to see what other kind of trainings are out there. I'm looking into CPR training, first aid training, and the advanced version of the course I'm currently taking.

Long day, just got home at 9pm, but I'm super stoked for tomorrow when I get to learn basic first aid and triage!

Calling All Jobless College Grads!

As part of my job, I am helping to coordinate a conference on the economic crisis. We are setting up a panel of individuals who have been personally effected by the crisis, and I'm attempting to locate a college graduate who has been unable to find a job and has been job searching for around 6 months. The person would speak on the difficulties of job searching but also how they have remained strong and resilient throughout.

If this applies to you, or you know someone it applies to, please let me know.

Please feel free to cross post this in any LJ or blog.

The panel will be March 30 around 10 a.m. It will be approximately 45 minutes long, but the person is invited to stay for the full length of the conference (3 days) and will be paid $450 a day.

Thank you!

(P.S. Tight deadline, need names by close of business today!)

Simon Almost Died Today

Jon and I went to the bridal shop today to order tuxes and pick up my veil.

When we got home, I started taking pictures of the veil.

Simon got up on his hind legs. Simon reached out a paw and hooked a claw into my veil.

Simon had .054 seconds to change his mind. He did.

That is why Simon is still alive.
